An 18 month project funded by the National Foundation for Youth Music that includes new equipment and weekly workshops with music professionals from Readipop.co.uk

The inspiration for this project came from  young people at Bishops Green with passion and skills in making music but no access to equipment or training due to the limited music making opportunities in this isolated rural community.

The project runs
weekly workshops aiming to support the development of all the different types of music making that young people engage in, from rock bands to urban styles, DJing and MCing. The music leaders will devise bespoke workshops plans appropriate to the needs and aspirations of the young people that will combine learning technical skills alongside developing their music making and enjoyment of music.

Key to the project is the development of one trainee from the local community. This young person will be trained over the 18 month duration of the project and will be responsible for encouraging participation and a sense of ownership among the young people.

Year 1.
Weekly sessions led by 2 experienced Readipop tutors and the support of the peer mentor/trainee. Over the first 12 months, the p
eer mentor will be trained and gain workshop experience.

Year 2.
The trainee will lead sessions in conjunction with 1 Readipop music leader. Towards the end of the project the trainee will lead sessions as a solo music maker (with the support ot youth workers) with fortnightly visits by a music maker to help with technical, musical and group-work issues. Holiday sessions will allow more intensive work on music skills and styles and include visits to Readipop's studio facility in Reading to do higher quality recordings in a more professional environment.
