The Youth Room

The Youth Room (also known as the ‘Internet Cafe’ or simply ‘Club’) is the base for our work at Bishops Green.  When we became aware that a new Village Hall was being planned, complete with a designated Youth Room, we were determined to make the most of the space available.

Members of the first Youth Council sat down with our Youth Worker and began to fill a large sheet of paper with a list of equipment and ideas for the new youth room.  The idea to create an Internet Cafe emerged.  Young people wanted several PCs to access the internet, a pub style pool table, a Cafe Bar area serving snacks, drinks, and an area to relax with comfortable seating.

Our plans fitted well with the Nestle Trust’s Make Space Campaign, and funding was secured to kit out the room and extend the opening hours by employing a part time staff member for a year.

The MOD target was chosen as our logo, recognising the close relationship that Bishops Green has had with nearby former Greenham Common Airbase.

In 2011 the Youth Room was reconfigured to accommodate a new Sure Start Children’s Children’s Centre.  Basingstoke artist, Kev Munday was commissioned to produce custom artwork for the youth room
